Why does the saving vary by grid provider?

LEG legislation (StromVV Art. 19h) grants the same percentage network discount to everyone. But that discount applies to the local tariff — which is different for every grid operator. CKW customers pay a lower base tariff than EKS customers, so the absolute saving is smaller. Same law, different baseline.

Do I still pay my current electricity provider?

Yes. You don't switch providers. For the share of your consumption covered locally, you pay the LEG rate via Upgrid. For the rest, you pay your grid operator as usual. Two invoices, one lower total.

What if my grid provider isn't listed yet?

We're expanding continuously. If your provider isn't in the table yet, register anyway — we'll notify you when a community launches in your grid area. Registration is free and non-binding.

Is the LEG price fixed or can it change?

The network fee discount (20%) is enshrined in law and doesn't fluctuate quarterly or annually. The community energy price is set in your contract with Upgrid and isn't subject to the same volatility as the SFOE reference market price.

The more expensive your operator, the bigger the gap to the LEG rate. EKS customers save 3.19 Rp./kWh, CKW customers 1.30 Rp./kWh — same law, different baseline.

Your LEG share

How much of your consumption is covered locally via the community. Typical range is 30–60%, depending on solar production in your area and your load profile.

The energy price in your community

Set contractually per LEG, usually between 18 and 22 Rp./kWh. This price is more stable than the standard tariff, which can change every quarter.

The grid level of your supply

Default discount: 20% off variable grid fees. If you draw from the same low-voltage level (NE5) as the producer, you get up to 40% under StromVV Art. 19h.

The grid fee discount is written into law

StromVV Art. 19h (the Swiss Electricity Supply Ordinance) sets the discount on variable grid fees for locally traded solar power within a LEG: 20% standard, up to 40% on the same low-voltage level (NE5). ElCom oversees how the rules are applied and publishes the tariff guidance yearly. The discount isn't a marketing promise — it's a legal obligation your grid operator has to honour.

What you pay as a consumer — and what you don't

There are no joining fees or switching costs for LEG membership. You keep your current electricity provider and contract. For the share of your consumption covered via the LEG, you pay the LEG rate to Upgrid. For the rest, your grid operator bills you as usual. So you don't pay twice — you pay less in total.
